La cikado kaj la formiko (version 2.0)

La cikado: Kara formiko, mia preferata najbaro! Kiel vi fartas?

La formiko: Mi fartas bone, cikado…Kion vi volas?

La cikado: Kion mi volas? Kial mi volu ion? Cxu amiko ne povas viziti alian amikon?

La formiko: Bone, saluton! Sed nun mi devas foriri…Mi estas tre okupita!

La cikado: Jam?! Mi gxus alvenis!

La formiko: Jes…bone, bone…pardonu min, mi estas lacega, mi laboras tro multe. Kiel vi fartas?

La cikado: Sufiĉe bone, dankon amiko, sed mi iomete timas pri la vintro…

La formiko: Pri la vintro? Kial?

Intervjuisto (Dacxjo): Saluton Nikita.

Nikita: Mi faris nenion, cxi tie cxiuj senkulpas! CXu ne? (rikano)

Dacxjo: CXu pravas ke vi mortigis tridek virojn?

Via intervjuo tedas min. CXiu jxurlanisto havas la samajn demandojn…Diable, cxu vi povas esti iomete pli kreema?

Dacxjo: Pardonu min…Pri kio vi volas paroli?

Nikita: Mi ne scias…Estu originala… Demandu pri amo!

Dacxjo: Amo?

Nikita: Jes, amo, kial ne? Krimulino kiel mi ne povas ami iun?

Dacxjo: Mi supozas ke jes…Cxu vi iam enamigxis?

Kia kontrolo, kia akurateco!

Dacxjo: Mi kompatas vin, Nikita.

Nikita: Mortigi, mortigi, mortigi - miaj tri "M"j…(rikano)

Dacxjo: Mortigi kiel resanigilo kontraux la soleco kaj la tristeco?!

Nikita: Ne estas pli bone! (freneza rikano)

Dacxjo: Kia frenezo! Tiu intervjuo estas finita! Adiaux Nikita!

Nikita: Revenu kiam vi volas, mi rakontos al vi pri mia resanigilo kontraux la trodikigxo!!! (alia lauxta rikano)

Consider a donation to Esperantic Studies Foundation

Kara subtenanto,

Tre malmultaj asocioj kaj fondaĵoj aktivas tutmonde pri lingvaj temoj.

Bondezire,

Mark Fettes,
vic-prezidanto,

Eventful year for ESF

Dear Supporter,

The last year was an eventful one, not only for Esperantic Studies Foundation! Many and varied developments around the world demonstrated that a new generation is not willing to remain stuck in the dead ends of recent decades. This generation has not yet fully defined its goals or strategies. We can state with confidence, nevertheless, that a neutral common language is perfectly adapted to these efforts to establish a more just and harmonious global society.

As you know, ESF is deploying its modest resources to help clarify this vision of diversity, justice and mutual understanding and to bring it closer to reality. Very few associations and foundations are active on language issues at a global level. To tell the truth, even we have been surprised at the level of interest and support our various initiatives have attracted in recent years. This year, Lernu.net surpassed the threshold of 100,000 registered users; Edukado.net – now celebrating its 10th anniversary – reattained the level of 2000 active collaborators; and the documentary film The Universal Language, which ESF supported with a significant grant (and advice), has begun touring film festivals worldwide. We are proud that through these projects – to name just a few – we are succeeding in positively influencing the public image of Esperanto, along with its learning and use not only in North America, but in dozens and dozens of countries around the world.

But we are not satisfied. We view lernu! and the other internet projects as constituting the embryo of a new type of Esperanto speaking community, one that could offer many more possibilities and forms of interaction than any existing model. In the first nine months of 2011, we worked closely with the activists of E@I to plan what such a community might look like. Now the preparations have started. Even with another whole year of hard teamwork ahead of us, we strongly believe that this project will open up new perspectives for ESF’s work around the world, and for promotion of the ideas and values associated with Esperanto.

Stay the course with us! Your support is very important for our work. If you can, please consider the possibility of making a monthly contribution to ESF (http://esperantic.org/en/donations/online). Or you could make a one time contribution to the campaign “100,000 euros for ESF” (http://kampanjo.ikso.net/). Spread the word about our work among your friends. Join our online projects and use them for your own purposes. The more we work together, the more weight our actions will carry in the development of a global society.

We wish all of you a new year that is peaceful, happy, and full of hope!

Bondezire,

Mark Fettes

Mia imaga intervjuo kun D-ro Molly

D-ro Wilhelm Molly (1838-1919)
Dacxjo (intervjuisto): Bonan tagon, D-ro Molly, kiel vi fartas?

D-ro Molly (malnova esperantisto el Belgio): Suficxe bone, Dacxjo, kaj vi?

Dacxjo: Ankaux bone, dankon pro akcepti renkonti min por tiu intervjuo.

D-ro Molly: Nedankinde.

D-ro Molly: Mi havis framasonan amikon, Gustave Roy, kiu estis franca esperantisto. Li ankaux kolektadis posxtmarkojn kiel mi. Li cxiam pensis ke Esperanto estus la plej konvena lingvo por Moresneto, nia urbeto kunpremita inter tri landoj kaj tri lingvoj. Ni multe diskutis pri tio kaj, iom post iom, mi lernis Esperanton, mi praktikis kun Gustave kaj mi farigxis reala verda koro!

Dacxjo: Cxu vi vere kredis ke gxi estis ebla?

Dacxjo: Mi admiras vian motivigxon. Kion vi faris tiam?

D-ro Molly: Ni proklamis la Esperantosxtaton Amikejo!

Daxjo: Kio? Vi vere faris gxin?

D-ro Molly: Jes, kaj kia festo!

Dacxjo: Kion signifas tio?

D-ro Molly: Gustave kaj mi viziis efektivan liberigon el Belgio kaj Germanio. Sed tamen mi devas konfesi ke aliaj komprenis la aferon plejparte simbole...

Dacxjo: D-ro Molly, kiel vi sentas vin? Vi aspektas tre pala.

D-ro Molly: Ne zorgu, Dacxjo. Mi estas nur lacega. Mia memoro forlasas min.

http://esperanto.org/Ondo/Libroj/Libroj.php

Robb Kvasnak and His Argument For Esperanto

Robb (aka Rocxjo) is one of the founders of our Sudflorida Esperanto Rondo (SfERo).  Please listen to his convincing argument in favor of Esperanto.

Erinaceto en nebulo

Priskribo

Dum vesperoj Erinaceto vizitadis Urseton por kune kalkuli stelojn.

In the beginning of the 90s, several Esperantist singers fled from Congo to Europe because of the war (i.a. Zhou-Mack who went to Paris, and Denizo Rock Tamba to Germany), and took part in Vinilkosmo-Kompil’ Vol. 2 in 1996.  In May 18th 2005, Denis Rock Tamba was expulsed from Germany with other Congalese, after sixteen years of exile, leaving his son and his organized life behind.

After returning to Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), Denis Rock Tamba, who had several musical experiences in Germany (Afrika Espero, La Rolls, etc.), returned to his musical activities in Congo and met with other musicians.  During the ILEI conference that occured in Kinshasa, several Esperantist musicians, writers, and composers from different regions of Congo, met (Viktor Lufimpu, Junior Ngangu, and Denis Rock Tamba), and they had the idea of creating a musical group with various other musicians under the name Konga Espero.

Despite technical difficulties, they succeeded in recording an 8-title mini-album in 2009 in a studio in Kinshasa, "Kiu lingvo", and they agreed to add it to the Afrika Kompilo project.  Their music carries us from reggae and zook through latino and funk rock, with themes going from political engagement, world peace, and romance.

    Uzado de komoj

    D-ro Boris Kolker
    By D-ro Boris Kolker

Sxi rigardis lin severe, kaj li silentigxis.

    2. Antaux aliaj konjunkcioj ("sed", "nek", "tio estas" ktp) oni uzu komon.

Pluvis, sed li tamen veturis per biciklo.

    3. Cxirkaux subfrazo oni uzu komojn.

Mi faros tion, nur cxar vi mem petis min.

    4. Cxirkaux apudmeto, parentezo kaj aldona klarigo oni uzu komojn.

Ecx helporganizajxoj, precipe neregistaraj, retiras siajn komisiitojn.

    6. Cxirkaux postmetita rekta priskribo, esprimita per adjektiva participo kun subordigitaj vortoj, oni uzu komojn.

Interview with Nobel Prize in Economics...in Esperanto

Reinhard Selten (born 5 October 1930) is a German economist. Selten was born in Breslau (Wrocław) in Lower Silesia, now in Poland, to a Jewish father, Adolf Selten, and Protestant mother, Käthe Luther.  For his work in game theory, Selten won the 1994 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (shared with John Harsanyi and John Nash). He is also well known for his work in bounded rationality, and can be considered as one of the founding fathers of experimental economics. He developed an example of a game called Selten's Horse because of its extensive form representation. He is noted for his publishing in non-refereed journals to avoid being forced to make unwanted changes to his work.

Selten is professor emeritus at the University of Bonn, Germany, and holds several honorary doctoral degrees. He has been an Esperantist since 1959., and met his wife through the Esperanto movement.  He is a member and co-founder of the International Academy of Sciences San Marino.

For the European Parliament election, 2009, he was the top candidate for the German wing of Europe – Democracy – Esperanto.

    Esperanto through Claude Piron's eyes

Claude Piron (26 February 1931 – 22 January 2008) was a psychologist and a translator for the United Nations (from Chinese, English, Russian and Spanish into French) from 1956 to 1961.  After leaving the UN, he worked the world over for the World Health Organization.  He was a prolific author of Esperanto works. He spoke Esperanto from childhood and used it in Japan, the People's Republic of China,Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, in Africa and Latin America, and in nearly all the countries of Europe.

Mr. Piron's works can be readily found on the internet in French, English, and of course in Esperanto.  For a sample of such works, visit: his articles, his books and short stories, his open letters, his different audio and video recordings, and his bibliography.  For those of you who understand French, I would highly recommend his 10-part video series entitled "Les langues: un défi" that can be found at the botton of the section on audio and video recordings.  It is truly enlightening.

Claude Piron (1931- 2008). Esperantistiĝis en 1945. Belgo, loĝanta en Svislando. Psiĥologo, tradukisto. Estismembro de la Akademio de Esperanto. Honora membro de Universala Esperanto-Asocio. The Prague Manifesto

The Prague Manifesto (or Manifesto de Prago) is a set of seven widely-shared principles of the Esperanto movement. It was drafted at the 1996 World Congress of Esperanto which occurred in Prague by officials from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and attendees of the congress. The document emphasizes democratic communication, language rights, preservation of language diversity, and effective language education.

La Espero - La himno de Esperantujo.

"La Espero" ("The Hope") is a poem written by L. L. Zamenhof (1859-1917), the initiator of the Esperanto language. The song is often used as the anthem of Esperanto, and is now usually sung to a triumphal march composed by Félicien Menu de Ménil (although there is an earlier, less martial tune created in 1891 by Claes Adelsköld, as well as a number of others less well-known). It is sometimes referred to as the hymn of the Esperanto movement.

*kio hundo, jen, vijam parolas specife, ĉar vi aldonas substantivon. Tio signifas ke vi devas uzi "kiu" (kiu hundo)

      Same pri ĉiuj korelativoj; kiu/kio, tiu/tio, ĉiu/ĉio.

      kio = what
      kiu = which, which one

      tio = that
      tiu = that one

      ĉio = everything
      ĉiu = each, every one
      ĉiuj = everyone

      nenio = nothing
neniu = no one, no [] [No dogs are allowed = Neniuj hundoj estas permesitaj]

Do, oni povas diri ke estas malfacile elekti inter *kio hundo (lit. what dog) kaj "kiu hundo". Sed tiujmalfacilaĵoj malaperas kun ĉiu/ĉio, ĉar "every dog" (ĉiu hundo) estas evidente ĝusta kaj "everythingdog" (ĉio hundo) estas evidente malĝusta. Same pri "no dog" (neniu hundo) kaj "nothing dog" (nenio hundo).

Sed jen kelkaj reguloj kiuj eblehelpos vin iomete:

      - kiam vi uzas la vorton kaj poste substantivon, vi devas uzi u-formon (kiu afero, tiu afero)
      - kiam vi uzas la vorton SEN substantivo, tute sola, uzu "tio" kiam vi dirus simple "that", kaj uzu"tiu" kiam vi dirus "that one" aŭ "that individual. Uzu "kio" kiam vi dirus simple "what", uzu "kiu"kiam vi dirus "which one", "which", aŭ "who".

Kion vi faras? = What are you doing?
Kiun vi faras? = Which one are you doing?

Mi faras tion. = I am doing that.
Mi faras tiun. = I am doing that one.

Mi ne scias kion vi aŭdis. = I don't know what you heard.
Mi ne scias kiun vi aŭdis. = I don't know who you heard. AŬ I don't know which one you heard.

= I heard that.
Mi aŭdis tiun. = I heard that one. [povus esti, ke oni aŭdis tiun *personon*, t.e. oni aŭdispersonon kiu parolis, aŭ povus esti ke oni aŭdis specifan informon, t.e. oni aŭdis tiun *informon*]

An update on Esperanto from the Universala Esperanto-Asocio

      As of September 2011
In a world increasingly aware of minority rights and linguistic and cultural diversity, the international language Esperanto is gaining renewed attention from policy-makers. … Non-governmental organisations are pressing to have the international language question placed on agendas at the United Nations and the European Union. … The Prague Manifesto, a modern restatement of the values and goals underlying the Esperanto movement, emphasises linguistic democracy. … The celebration of 150 years since the birth of Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto (1859-1917), commenced with a symposium at UNESCO headquarters in December 2008, culminated in the International Esperanto Congress in Zamenhof’s birthplace of Bialystok (Poland), and ended in a symposium in New York attended by UN diplomats. … UEA (the Universal Esperanto Association) is regularly proposed as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, among others by the Polish Parliament in 2009. … The Burundi Esperanto Association became the seventieth member association of UEA. … There are Esperanto associations in about twenty African countries. … The German city Herzberg declared itself an ‘Esperanto city’. … The Esperanto version of Wikipedia contained more than 150,000 articles in the middle of 2011. … Despite containing more than 700 pages, a new English-language encyclopaedia of original Esperanto literature has been termed ‘concise’. … Here are some additional facts about the current state of Esperanto.
Purpose and origins. The basis of what became the international language Esperanto was published in Warsaw in 1887 by Dr. Lejzer Ludwik Zamenhof. The idea of a planned international language, intended not to replace ethnic languages but to serve as an additional, second language for all, was not new. However, Zamenhof saw that such a language must develop through collective use, so he limited his initial proposal to a minimalist grammar and a small vocabulary. Esperanto is now a fully fledged language with a worldwide community of speakers and comprehensive language resources. Many of Zamenhof's ideas preceded those of the founder of modern linguistics, the structuralist Ferdinand de Saussure (whose brother René spoke Esperanto).
Characteristics. Esperanto is both a spoken and a written language. Its lexicon derives primarily from Western European languages, while its syntax and morphology display strong Slavic influences. Esperanto morphemes are invariant and almost infinitely recombinable into many different words, so the language also has much in common with isolating languages like Chinese, while its internal word structure shows similarities with agglutinative languages such as Turkish, Swahili, and Japanese.
Development. At first the language consisted of about 1000 roots, from which 10,000 to 12,000 words could be formed. Today, Esperanto dictionaries often contain 15,000 to 20,000 roots, from which hundreds of thousands of words can be formed, and the language continues to evolve: an Esperanto Academy monitors current trends. Over time, the language has been used for virtually every conceivable purpose, some of them controversial or problematic: the language was forbidden, and its users persecuted, by both Stalin, as the language of ‘cosmopolitans’. Esperanto, and by Hitler, as the ‘language of Jews’ (Zamenhof was Jewish). Although Esperanto is intended as a second language, there now are also as many as a thousand native speakers of Esperanto who speak it as their home language.
Users. The Universal Esperanto Association (UEA), whose membership forms the most active part of the Esperanto community, has national affiliate associations in 70 countries and individual members in 120 countries. Based on the number of textbooks sold and membership of local societies, the number of people with some knowledge of Esperanto is in the hundreds of thousands and possibly millions. There are speakers of Esperanto all over the world, although there are notable concentrations in countries as diverse as China, Japan, Brazil, Iran, Madagascar, Bulgaria, and Cuba.
Teaching of Esperanto. The ability to communicate in Esperanto can be acquired quickly. Therefore, it provides an ideal introduction to the study of other languages. Within weeks students can begin to use Esperanto for correspondence, and within months for school trips abroad. Experiments and informal observations demonstrate that prior learning of Esperanto has a favourable influence on the learning of both first and second languages. Esperanto is taught in some schools, although most people learn it through self-study, by correspondence, at a class or over the Internet through sites such aswww.lernu.net which offers courses in over 30 languages. There are textbooks and teach-yourself resources in more than 100 languages. The www.esperanto.net website gives some idea of current teaching activity.
Official recognition. In 1954 the UNESCO General Conference recognised that the achievements of Esperanto match UNESCO's aims and ideals, and official relations were established between UNESCO and UEA. In 1985 the General Conference called on member states and international organisations to promote the teaching of Esperanto in schools and its use in international affairs. UEA also has official relationships with the United Nations, UNICEF, the Council of Europe, the Organisation of American States, and the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
Meetings and travel. More than a hundred international conferences and meetings are held each year in Esperanto — without translators or interpreters. The biggest is the International Esperanto Congress, which is held annually, most recently in Yokohama (2007), Rotterdam (2008), Bialystok (2009), Havana (2010), and Copenhagen (2011). The second Middle Eastern Esperanto Conference occurred in Iznik, Turkey in 2009, the sixth Asian Congress in Mongolia in 2010, and the eighth Pan-American Congress in São Paulo in 2011.
The 2011 edition of the Pasporta Servo handbook (Passport Service), a service run by UEA's youth section, contains addresses of 1087 hosts in 90 countries providing free overnight accommodation to Esperanto-speaking travellers.
Research and libraries. Many universities include Esperanto in courses on linguistics, while a few offer it as a separate subject. Particularly noteworthy is the University of Poznan in Poland, which offers a degree programme in interlinguistics. The bibliography of the American Modern Language Association records more than 300 scholarly publications on Esperanto every year. The library at the International Esperanto Museum in Vienna (part of the National Library of Austria) has more than 35,000 items. Other major libraries with more than 20,000 items include the Hodler Library at UEA headquarters in Rotterdam, the British Esperanto Association’s library at Stoke-on-Trent, the German Esperanto library at Aalen, and the Japanese Esperanto Association’s library in Tokyo. The Vienna and Aalen collections can be consulted on-line and items are available through the international inter-loan system.
Professional contacts and special interests. Organisations for Esperanto speakers include those for doctors, writers, railway workers, scientists, musicians, and numerous others. They often publish their own magazines, hold conferences, and help to expand the language for professional and specialised use. The International Academy of Sciences of San Marino facilitates collaboration at the university level. Original and translated publications appear regularly in fields such as astronomy, IT, botany, chemistry, law, and philosophy to name a few. In 2009, UEA launched the ‘Scientific Thought’ series of scientific classics with Darwin’s The Origin of Species.
There are Esperanto special-interest groups for people such as scouts, chess players, go players, cat-lovers, and the blind. UEA’s youth section, TEJO, organises international conferences and publishes magazines. Buddhists, Shintoists, Roman Catholics, Protestants, Quakers, Baha’is, and atheists have their own organisations, and many community, social and interest groups use the language. The Sennacieca Asocio Tutmonda (International Non-National Association) is made up of various worker groups.
Literature. Esperanto’s flourishing literary tradition has been recognised by PEN International, which accepted an Esperanto affiliate group in 1993. The Esperanto Literature Academy, founded in 2008, promotes writing in Esperanto. Notable present-day writers in Esperanto include the novelists Trevor Steele (Australia), István Nemere (Hungary), Spomenka Štimec (Croatia), and Manuel de Seabra (Catalonia); poets Mauro Nervi (Italy), Mao Zifu (China), Mikhail Gishpling (Israel), and Abel Montagut (Catalonia); and the essayists and translators Probal Dasgupta (India) and Humphrey Tonkin (United States). The Esperanto poets William Auld, Marjorie Boulton, and Baldur Ragnarsson, have been proposed for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Translations. Most recent translations into Esperanto include Shakespeare’s The Winter Tale, Manzoni’s The BetrothedThe Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, Maitreyi by Eliade, The Fateful Adventures of the Good Solider Ŝvejk by Hašek, and the Chinese classic Pilgrim to the West by Wu Cheng’en. Many anthologies have translations of poetry from various languages.
For children, AsterixWinnie the Pooh and Tintin have been joined byDer Struwwelpeter and Pippi Longstocking, and the complete Moomintroll books by world-renowned Finnish author Tove Jansson, as well as the Oz books of L. Frank Baum are available online.
Translations out of Esperanto include Maskerado, a book published in Esperanto in 1965 by Tivadar Soros, father of the financier George Soros, about his family’s survival during the Nazi occupation of Budapest. This book has been published in English in Britain and the United States, and has appeared also in Russian, Hungarian, German, and Turkish. A book by the Polish journalist Roman Dobrzyński, The Zamenhof Street, has appeared in more than ten languages, most recently in French (2008) and Italian (2009).
Theatre and cinema. Plays by dramatists as diverse as Goldoni, Ionesco, Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn have been performed in recent years in Esperanto. Many plays by Shakespeare have been translated into Esperanto; a local cast performed King Lear in Esperanto in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Esperanto use in the cinema is less common. In scenes of Chaplin’sThe Great Dictator there are posters in Esperanto. In Idiot’s Delightwith Clark Gable and the Japanese film Jan Arima there are dialogues in Esperanto, while the cult film Incubus with William Shatner uses Esperanto only.
Music. Musical genres in Esperanto include popular and folk songs, rock, cabaret, solo and choral pieces, and opera. Popular composers and performers, including Elvis Costello and Michael Jackson, have recorded in Esperanto, written scores inspired by the language, or used it in their videos. Classical orchestral and choral pieces with texts in Esperanto include Lou Harrison's La Koro Sutro and David Gaines's first symphony, both from the United States. Music in Esperanto can be found online.
Magazines. Over 100 magazines and journals are published regularly in Esperanto, including the monthly news magazine Monato, the youth magazine Kontakto, and UEA’s Esperanto magazine. Many magazines have an online edition and post past editions online. There are regular publications about medicine, science, and religion, as well as educational publications, literary reviews, and publications on special-interest topics.
Radio and television. Radio stations in Brazil, China, Cuba, Poland and the Vatican broadcast regularly in Esperanto. Many more programmes are available online. Esperanto-TV in Bialystok broadcasts regular programmes in Esperanto.
Internet. Esperanto is used widely on the Internet, and its use is growing rapidly. There are several hundred discussion groups which cover topics from family use of Esperanto to the general theory of relativity. Esperanto is widely used in the ICQ, IRC, MSN, and Skype instant messaging programmes. Computer programmes, for example spelling and grammar checkers and keyboard settings, have been created in Esperanto. Programmes such as Open Office, Firefox, IrfanView, the KDE graphical desktop environment, and the Ubuntu and Mandriva operating systems are available in Esperanto. Popular websites such as Google, Wikipedia, Facebook, and Ipernity have Esperanto versions.
UEA services. UEA publishes books, magazines, and a yearbook listing Esperanto organisations and local representatives around the world. These publications, as well as information on CDs, DVDs etc can be found at www.uea.org/katalogo. UEA’s book service has about 5,000 titles in stock.
